East Haven's inland neighborhoods are dense with mid-century houses, and a lot of them are running gas furnaces well past twenty years old. Those units usually fail in the same way and at the same time — the first sustained cold snap, when they are asked to run continuously for the first time all year. Heat exchanger cracks and failed inducer motors are the usual culprits.
On the shoreline in Momauguin and Cosey Beach, many homes were raised or rebuilt after Storm Sandy, which relocated mechanical equipment above the flood line. That is the right call for flood protection, and it creates its own service quirks — longer refrigerant and duct runs, and equipment in spaces that were never designed to house it.
Covering East Haven from the town center and Foxon out to the Momauguin and Cosey Beach shoreline, the streets bordering Short Beach, and the neighborhoods near Lake Saltonstall. Post-Sandy elevated homes often have mechanicals in relocated, tighter spaces.
